American Ballet Theatre in the Entrance Hall

in this photograph costumed members of the American Ballet Theatre gather in the Entrance Hall of the White House on May 22, 1962. The ballet company performed Aaron Copland's "Billy the Kid" in the East Room as part of the entertainment for the State Dinner held in honor of President Félix Houphouët-Boigny of the Ivory Coast. President Houphouët-Boigny and his wife, Marie-Thérèse Houphouët-Boigny, were welcomed to the White House by President John F. Kennedy and First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy.
